What Are Your Traditions?

BIBLE PASSAGES

  1. Leviticus 9:1-11:47

  2. 2 Samuel 6:1-7:17

  3. Mark 7:1-23

We see a beautiful picture of Aaron raising his hands towards the people and blessing them. I find that to be refreshing seeing the people of God receiving a blessing.  Do you know that you are blessed today?  Do we have an understanding of the goodness of God in our day to day lives?

2 Samuel 6-7 is a beautiful picture of how God showed Himself to David and ensured that the Messiah would come from the line of David. Today, we are so privileged to have the amazing opportunity to be the home of God. We are vessels that carry the presence of God throughout the earth today.  We are called light to the world and salt to the earth. This is a fantastic opportunity for us to reach out to people as ambassadors of the Kingdom to a world that needs hope.

The book of Mark hits the nail on the head and should cause us to reflect. Jesus said, “For you ignore God’s law and substitute your own tradition.” WOW! How does this reflect the community of faith today? Do institutional systems or churches substitute their own traditions and neglect to worship God in spirit and in truth? Can we believe and allow the WORD to direct our relationship with God in Spirit and in Truth?  2,000 years ago Jesus had the same problem with tradition and legalism replacing the Word of God. These traditions and legalism created a difficult environment for people to come alive in their relationship with the Father.

I would challenge all of us today to open our hearts and ask the Father if we personally have traditions that are distracting us from our full potential in the Kingdom.  We want the flow of God in our lives, to be like springs of living water.

Questions for Reflection:

▪ Do you believe you are the home of God?

▪ Do you know the goodness of God in your day to day life?

▪ Do you know that you are blessed?

▪ Do you believe God is personal, covenantal, and available to all today?
