BIBLE PASSAGES
Genesis 28:10-32:3
Hosea 12:13-14:10
John 1:43-51
From the earliest records of our ancestors in Genesis, we discover that Jacob encountered angels as he dreamed. Jesus, himself, promised to Nathanael that he would see the angels ascending and descending on the Son of Adam.
Following the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is not like the other systems of religion in the world. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is relational. The challenges of mankind are ever-present and mankind is intentionally engaged by the Creator.
The supernatural is emphasized this week with the angels ascending and descending from the heavens. There are many unanswered questions about what takes place in that realm. Childlike faith is required to accept the realities that I may not have the answers to certain questions here in this realm.
I want to challenge you today to prepare yourself to encounter God. We often miss opportunities to be with God as Jacob and Nathanael did. Sometimes we view that God is only for the people of the Bible.
We are now the people of the Bible. Other religions consider us "People of the Book". For me, a relationship with the creator of the universe is far better than anything else the world may have to offer.
“Jacob left Beersheba and went toward Haran. And he came to a certain place and stayed there that night, because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones of the place, he put it under his head and lay down in that place to sleep. And he dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it! And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord, the God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac.
The land on which you lie I will give to you and to your offspring. Your offspring shall be like the dust of the earth, and you shall spread abroad to the west and to the east and to the north and to the south, and in you and your offspring shall all the families of the earth be blessed. Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land. For I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.” And he was afraid and said, “How awesome is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.” - Genesis 28:10-17
“But I am the Lord your God from the land of Egypt; you know no God but Me, and besides Me there is no savior.” - Hosea 13:4
“Nathanael answered him, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God! You are the King of Israel!” Jesus answered him, “Because I said to you, ‘I saw you under the fig tree,’ do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” - John 1:49-51
Questions for Reflection:
▪ Do I recognize the Savior of the world?
▪ Do you see yourself as one of them, "People of the Book"?
▪ Am I interested in the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and His angels as much as they are interested in me?
▪ Am I ready to encounter God and say, “Surely the Lord is in this place”?
▪ Am I willing to respond to Yeshua and declare Him as the Son of God and the King of Israel?
