The Covenant

BIBLE PASSAGES

Exodus 30:11- 34:35

1 Kings 18:1-39

2 Corinthians 3:1-8

This week’s reading portion shows the dialogue between God and Moses.  God establishes the covenant with the people we call Israel. This covenant is sometimes called the Mosaic covenant. We read in the prophets portion about Elijah and the prophets of Baal on Mt. Carmel.  The question that keeps being asked is, "Who is your God?"

God consistently and regularly shares with them, I am your God and don't have any others.

Just as God had spoken to Moses, the children of Israel were consistently dealing with idol worship and intermarrying as they entered the Promised Land (Israel). These behaviors were the cause of Israel’s heart being divided.

After reading this part of scripture, we find ourselves wondering how this applies to us. In 2 Corinthians, Paul ties everything together giving meaning for us today.  The question still remains, am I your God or do you have another?

God has put the Spirit of the Living God in the hearts of humans.

We can have the Spirit of the Living God flowing from us.  We can choose to walk in the ways of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.  I am thankful God gives me a choice to choose his way.

"He said, "Here I am making a covenant; in front of all your people I will do wonders such as have not been created anywhere on earth or in any nation.  All the people around you will see the work of Adonai.  What I am going to do through you will be awesome!" - Exodus 34:10

"You yourselves are our letter of recommendation, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.  You make it clear that you are a letter from the Messiah placed in our care, written now with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on stone tablets but on human hearts." - 2 Corinthians 3:2-3

Questions for reflection:

▪ Do I believe I have been grafted into the covenant?

▪ What lifestyle changes do I need, that will open deeper wells of worshipping Adonai?

▪ Do I understand that His glory is in me through the life-giving power of the Holy Spirit?

▪ Do I believe I am a living love letter, written by the Holy Spirit unto God Himself?

▪ Does the world see the love relationship between God and me?
