BIBLE PASSAGES

Exodus 18:1-20:23

Isaiah 6:1-7:14

1 Timothy 3:1-14

Moses comes out of Eygpt leading the children of Israel into the wilderness. Word reaches Jethro and Zipporah, that Moses and the children of Israel have reached the mountain of God. During their reunion, Jethro sees the mighty hand of God who has released the people from Egypt. What a testimony of the one true God. Jethro at this point makes a very powerful statement.  "Now I know that Adonai is greater than all other gods, because he rescued those who were treated so arrogantly.”  - Exodus 18:11.

The world is in desperate need of a Jethro moment to assist them in turning back to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob who is alive and well. How quickly we lose sight of how jealous God is. Jethro was no exception and aligned himself with the one true God.  The days of Joseph had long been forgotten by Pharoah and Eygpt was left plundered and in ruins.

I am once again reminded that the marble relief of Moses is one of 23 different reliefs, in the House of Representatives in the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. Every person who speaks from the House chamber floor gives an account to Moses. Last week the world witnessed a direct offense to the founders of the great nation of America. From the podium, Moses is the only marble relief in direct view of any speaker in the joint house. Moses gave us the Law of Adonai. Have we forgotten Joseph, as Pharoah did? Like the prophet JeremiahI can only pray that the congressional assembly collectively will return to the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

Moses now having responsibility for the full care of the Hebrew nation is required to handle all matters the people of God face.

Jethro gives God the glory first, before proceeding to give Moses some practical advice. Jethro gives sound counsel and encourages Moses.  The Hebrew nation was broken down into manageable representative groups of 1,000, 100, 50, and 10 as advised. Moses handled the major matters and the small matters could be handled among themselves.

God, through Yeshua our redeemer has an order. He is our great High Priest. The Holy Spirit is our ultimate guide in life, that reminds us of all things and teaches us what the father needs us to do. There is a blueprint still today, that reaches across all nations, tribes, and tongues. Isaiah heard the voice and said, “Here I am! Send me.”

Can you remember a time in your life that you have agreed to say this to the Lord?

“Jethro said, ‘Blessed be the Lord, who has delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians and out of the hand of Pharaoh and has delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians. Now I know that the Lord is greater than all gods, because in this affair they dealt arrogantly with the people.’” - Exodus 18:10-11

“Now obey my voice; I will give you advice, and God be with you! You shall represent the people before God and bring their cases to God, and you shall warn them about the statutes and the laws, and make them know the way in which they must walk and what they must do.

Moreover, look for able men from all the people, men who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe, and place such men over the people as chiefs of thousands, of hundreds, of fifties, and of tens. And let them judge the people at all times. Every great matter they shall bring to you, but any small matter they shall decide themselves. So it will be easier for you, and they will bear the burden with you. If you do this, God will direct you, you will be able to endure, and all this people also will go to their place in peace.” - Exodus 18:19-23

“And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.’ And he said, “Go, and say to this people:” - Isaiah 6:8-9

“The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task.” - I Timothy 3:1

Questions for Reflection:

▪ Am I willing to seek the office of overseer as a noble task?

▪ How would I answer the question, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?”

▪ Do I want to partner with the Holy Spirit?

▪ Do I understand the covenant and commands of the Lord in my life

today?

▪ How do I view the Ten Commandments today?
