Abraham’s faith is tested to the limits this week requiring his total surrender to God. Abraham loved both of his sons, Ishmael and Isaac. Abraham is distressed by the circumstances that he faces. After Abraham sends out Ishmael into the wilderness, God comes to him and tests his faith with Isaac.
God is no different today with us. God expects that our faith will have actions. Not that we should be concerned about our justification, but God expects a life of obedience. Progressive movement forward in our understanding and obedience pleases God with our lives. To truly love the Lord our God with all our heart, mind, and resources and to love our neighbor as ourselves is a delight to Him.
The daily practice of learning to love ourselves and loving God can be a challenge. The initial steps are recognizing that God is ever-present and being open to learning about the narrative that God is faithful and His Word gives us the living example of what we need to walk in ways that honor God, yourself, and others.
A Father and his son are connected because of the DNA between them. Nothing can change that. Knowing that OUR FATHER has created us in HIS image should give us great security. Inviting the Father to develop a relationship with you through his Son and the indwelling of the Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) is a fantastic opportunity of discovery.
Every day, we have a choice to listen to the Holy Spirit at work in our life or to go our own way. Our hearts and minds need to activate our faith, being led of the Spirit, into actions that please the Lord. This understanding comes through the Word that became flesh and dwelt among us.
Questions for Reflection:
▪ What are the assets that I have to bring before the Lord?
▪ Do I see my liabilities (lack) as being too great for God to overcome?
▪ Do I see my faith and actions working together?
▪ When was the last time I considered activating my faith?
▪ How strong is my faith and for what am I crying out to God?
▪ What is my definition of “faith”?
▪ What is my definition of “works”?
