Look Up and Be Healed

  1. Numbers 4:21-7:89

  2. Judges 13:2-25

  3. Acts 21:17-32

The people of Israel were given plenty of water and were healed after being bitten by snakes, based on their obedience. How is it that the people of God who had seen all the signs of God toward them, were still arguing and complaining?

In the case of Samuel’s mother, the Angel of the Lord appeared to her and gave her instructions. Samuel’s mother was obedient and God blessed them.
Humanity, for some reason, has a difficult time with obedience.  The Father is there to cover us when we make a mistake, but learning from the mistakes as humanity appears unattainable.

There is injustice in the world.  "Reaching the world one person at a time", has captivated my attention and lifestyle. This is the motto of our organization.  What if we all just reached out to one person around us daily?

Coming out of this lockdown situation, I was sitting on a park bench in Chiswick, London, U.K.   I was watching the people.  There was a voice sharing information to a driver in a car behind me that a young woman (nanny) had sprained her ankle in the park.  Upon further investigation, I saw three young boys who looked like they could be the children of this mother.

The mother said to the driver, "Thank you for waiting, while my nanny gets to the car."  I was scanning the park and saw the nanny hopping and struggling to get to the car.  She was quite a distance away.

The choice is before you now.  Do you help or not?  I approached the mother and the nanny and let them know I was a first responder and would be happy to help.  The nanny was in pain and did not feel like she could be assisted by the mother and myself.

The nanny began to crawl on her hands and knees to the car.  When she got close enough, I said to her, "I am here to help you as you need it."  She motioned for help.  At that moment she had to look up for her assistance and help.  She grabbed my arm and hand and we guided her into the taxi ensuring her ankle was safe.

The driver took her to safety.  The mother and I exchanged thank you's and the day went on.

Quick assessment and activation are required for our obedience.  I have witnessed individuals assisting the homeless here in London, with food while waiting in the queue to get their groceries at the local Waitrose.

The choices are before us every day.  We must always keep the "Reaching the World one person at a time" motto in front of us.  We were created to be Heaven On Planet Earth.  HOPE.

Look up today for all that you desire can be found in Him. Your obedience unto God is what pleases him more than your sacrifice. Remember God looks at the heart of man, not whether he is perfect in his ways. Seek the ways of God.

" When we had come to Jerusalem, the brothers received us gladly.  On the following day Paul went in with us to James, and all the elders were present. After greeting them, he related one by one the things that God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.  And when they heard it, they glorified God. And they said to him, “You see, brother, how many thousands there are among the Jews of those who have believed. They are all zealous for the law, and they have been told about you that you teach all the Jews who are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or walk according to our customs.  What then is to be done? They will certainly hear that you have come.  Do therefore what we tell you. We have four men who are under a vow; take these men and purify yourself along with them and pay their expenses, so that they may shave their heads. Thus all will know that there is nothing in what they have been told about you, but that you yourself also live in observance of the law.  But as for the Gentiles who have believed, we have sent a letter with our judgment that they should abstain from what has been sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from what has been strangled,[a] and from sexual immorality.”Then Paul took the men, and the next day he purified himself along with them and went into the temple, giving notice when the days of purification would be fulfilled and the offering presented for each one of them.

When the seven days were almost completed, the Jews from Asia, seeing him in the temple, stirred up the whole crowd and laid hands on him, crying out, “Men of Israel, help! This is the man who is teaching everyone everywhere against the people and the law and this place. Moreover, he even brought Greeks into the temple and has defiled this holy place.” For they had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian with him in the city, and they supposed that Paul had brought him into the temple. Then all the city was stirred up, and the people ran together. They seized Paul and dragged him out of the temple, and at once the gates were shut. And as they were seeking to kill him, word came to the tribune of the cohort that all Jerusalem was in confusion. He at once took soldiers and centurions and ran down to them. And when they saw the tribune and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul." - Acts 21:17-32
Questions for Reflection:

▪ Like Sampson’s mother was obedient, what does this mean to me?
▪ Sometimes God will require things of me that I did not expect. Is this well with my soul?
▪ Do I seek to know the ways of God?
▪ What is my attitude toward God in general?
