The Fruit of Peace:
Tonight we light the candle of peace. Only God can bring us peace. The love of God brings us peace that passes all understanding. Peace in the person of Jesus and the Spirit.
Peace is desired around the world by many and is a common greeting for those who worship monotheistically the God of Abraham.
Shalom - "Peace"
As-salamu alaykum - "Peace be upon you"
Peace "Shalom" is the very thing that Jesus gives us in John 14 - 2,000 years ago. How do we view peace today in a world that is full of struggle? Peace starts with us individually realizing that the Father is our source of peace. Jesus directs us to the Father at the end of John 14:27
“I have told you these things while I am still with you. But the Counselor, the Ruach HaKodesh (Spirit), whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything; that is, he will remind you of everything I have said to you. “What I am leaving with you is shalom — I am giving you my shalom. I don’t give the way the world gives. Don’t let yourselves be upset or frightened. You heard me tell you, ‘I am leaving, and I will come back to you.’ If you loved me, you would have been glad that I am going to the Father; because the Father is greater than I. - John 14:25-27
The Love of God will always give us that peace throughout the year. This peace is not a one-time event or just for the holidays. The fruit of the Spirit of Peace must be guarded and protected all year long.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” - Isaiah 9:6
“And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.” - John 14:16
As we light the candles of Love, Joy and Peace allow the Spirit of Truth tonight to fill you with the Father's Peace.
